I bought this salmon oil Omega 3 supplement because of its quality and convenience. The oil is pharmaceutical human grade salmon oil from Norway, preserved with vitamin E (as mixed tocopherols), not rosemary oil. The oil is protected from exposure to air and light by a recyclable aluminum bottle. I give Max two squirts (about 1 teaspoon) on his wet food at dinner time.
The black plastic pump is another big plus — no pouring or measuring is needed. The pump works smoothly and as long as you let it retract before moving it away from the food, it doesn’t leak. I keep the bottle in the refrigerator.
As I was writing this, our cat walked over to the bottle on my computer desk and started sniffing it with great interest. I put a little in his food bowl and he licked it up immediately. So, yay! Both dog and cat can benefit from the salmon oil. Unlike our dog, Dexter the cat has sensitive skin. If the oil makes a difference for him, I’ll be able to tell pretty quickly.
This new product is available at a “Launch Sale” at Amazon in 17-ounce bottles with Prime shipping. Buy two bottles in the same order for a discount. My shipment arrived in two days, on a Saturday (!), packed in an Amazon box with a air bags for cushioning. The bottle had an airtight seal, which was easy to dislodge and replace with the included pump.
I like that the pump is packed separately, so there’s no chance that the oil will leak if it has a rough ride during shipping. As expected, you need to give the pump a little twist to pop it out before it’s functional. The oil should be stored in the refrigerator for freshness. I admit I was a little concerned about the acceptability of cold oil on dog food, but it wasn’t a problem, so you probably won’t have to warm it up. The cat didn’t care either.
So far, I’ve been very pleased with this salmon oil supplement’s quality and ease of use. My reason for using an Omega-3 supplement is more for joint health than anything else, but there are additional benefits for joint lubrication, heart health, as well as a shiny coat that make it an all-round good supplement.
The oil has a guaranteed minimum quality per teaspoon (4800 mg), as follows:
This unscented salmon oil supplement is distributed by Barker Labs in Tomball, Texas. I’m impressed with the quality and packaging of their product, which is produced at low temperature using molecular distillation for purity. It has a very mild smell, not a strong fishy odor. The bottle should last over 3 months, since 503 milliliters equals about 102 teaspoons. I’m hoping the price will continue to be discounted at Amazon after the “launch sale” to keep it competitive and affordable. In any case our dog loves it and I will order it again.
