Caution: The last shipment of Dasuquin chews I received at the end of July (2014) was different than the product I had been buying. Instead of soft chews, they were hard as rocks and all stuck together. Amazon is investigating the problem to determine if it was a change in the product, a bad batch, improper storage, etc. I won’t be purchasing Dasuquin chews again until the results are in and the problem is fixed.
What is Dasuquin?
Our veterinarian recommended Dasuquin in 2008 and all our dogs have gotten it daily ever since. This joint supplement contains a combination of glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate, avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (asu), and methylsulfonylmethane (msm). Dasuquin with MSM offers maximum cartilage support. Nutramax is a well-established company that produces Dasuquin, Cosequin, Welactin, and other animal health products through veterinarians and online pet pharmacies. A prescription is not required.
Daily Use for Long-term Benefits
Dasuquin with MSM Soft Chews for Medium Dogs is a daily treat for Max at our house. He’s been getting Dasuquin for four years. Last year, we switched to the MSM formula for maximum joint health benefits and are happy to see Max still active and able to run and play. Over the years, he’s developed a slight stiffness in his hip joints, but it’s not apparent in daily activities. The vet can tell it’s there because he resists full extension of his back legs. Nevertheless, he likes a very brisk walk and can run very fast when there’s a bunny to chase.
We have seen good results and no negative side effects with this supplement. Dasuquin is well worth the cost and available from Amazon at a good price. It is sometimes available with Prime shipping, which saves about $6. Dasuquin does not require refrigeration and the treats do not break up easily in the package, so there’s no need to order from the closest vendor. When it was unavailable with Prime, I started ordering it from Allivet, which has competitive prices and good service.
Dasuquin and Welactin are the two products we can’t imagine doing without for our healthy senior dog.
